INSURANCE & RISK ASSESSMENT

Insurance and Risk Assessment

Please be aware that neither the POSE with City Arts Portsmouth Committee nor any of its members can assume liability for the loss or damage of personal property or for any injuries sustained by members of the public during their visit to venues during the event. Additionally, we cannot be held responsible for any misprints, misrepresentations, or shortcomings by contributors or contributing organisations.

Artists participating in POSE are required to obtain their own Public Liability insurance and will be requested to provide a copy of this insurance along with their entry. If you plan to exhibit at home, it's essential to inform your household insurer.

Risk Assessment

We kindly request that artists exhibiting at home prioritise the safety and well-being of our visitors by conducting a thorough risk assessment of their venue before the event commences.

Please review the following guidelines and implement them as applicable:

  • Ensure you are accompanied by someone during your opening hours.

  • Inform your neighbours about the event and extend invitations if appropriate.

  • Avoid leaving valuables unattended.

  • Keep personal possessions out of sight.

  • Securely manage cash handling.

  • Restrict access to private areas by locking or bolting them.

  • Notify your household insurer well in advance.

  • It is imperative to conduct a formal risk assessment before the event begins. Identify potential hazards, document them with photographs and notes, and take necessary corrective actions to demonstrate due diligence.

Your assessment should consider various factors, including potential hazards for children, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and animals. Additionally, address any hazards present in studios or workshops by safely storing sharp objects or toxic substances.

Clearly warn visitors about hazards such as steep steps, low beams, or passing traffic by using temporary signs. Display a visible disclaimer stating that visitors enter at their own risk; we will provide a template for you to display at your property.

Before the event begins, ensure you complete a formal risk assessment, for your personal records using the provided form as a guide:
