Community Engagement

City Arts proudly presents the Community Gallery Project, a celebration of the artistic endeavors originating from the John Pounds Centre's weekly groups, namely Art4Life, Craft, Chat & Chill, the WEA painting group, and the Society of St. James creative group. With a combined weekly attendance of 39 individuals spanning diverse ages, abilities, needs, and backgrounds, these groups represent a vibrant cross-section of our community.

The project can be seen within the John Pounds Centre, a space not only frequented by the weekly groups but also visited daily by the local community. This initiative aims to showcase the inspiring artwork created by these groups and, in turn, encourage visitors to engage with and participate in future projects.

At the heart of the project is the creation of a dynamic gallery wall featuring permanent picture frames. These frames serve as a visually engaging backdrop to display locally crafted artworks produced by the resident creative groups. The intention is to transform the space into a permanent exhibition, showcasing the diverse talents and expressions of the community.

Moreover, the project fosters collaboration and community spirit. All participating groups are provided with the opportunity to meet, mingle, and support one another in curating their work. The ultimate goal is to celebrate these artistic creations collectively, involving family and friends in the joyous occasion.

We are grateful for the support of The Partnership Foundation, co-funders of this installation. Their commitment to fostering community engagement aligns seamlessly with the vision of the Community Gallery Project.
