@The... Pop Up Exhibition

3 Day Pop Up Exhibition in Collaboration with The John Pounds Centre at Treadgolds Warehouse

In collaboration with The John Pounds Centre, we presented a captivating exhibition in the original warehouse space, dating back to its first use by Treadgolds in 1863. Now under the stewardship of The John Pounds Community Trust (more details at www.treadgolds.co.uk), the historic building served as a unique backdrop for our exhibition.

Titled "6@The…," the exhibition marks the debut collaboration of six accomplished artists: Pete Codling, Chris Wood, Lesley Bushell, Laura Browne, Matt Smith, and Gavin Hodson. Drawing inspiration from the rich history of the warehouse and their individual artistic perspectives, these Portsmouth-based artists presented a culmination of their observations and emotions within this iconic space.

A total of 286 individuals immersed themselves in the exhibition over the three days, testament to the resonating impact of the artists' work. The warehouse, with its roots dating back to 1863, served as both muse and canvas for the artists, providing a canvas that weaves history, creativity, and contemporary expression.

This collective of diverse artists came together earlier this year, driven by the challenge to curate a group exhibition centered around the warehouse's unique ambiance, its storied past, and the objects it holds. The artists explored, photographed, and engaged with the space, culminating in a shared experience that became integral to their creative process.

Fueling their collaboration were coffee conversations, shared meals, the occasional beer, studio time, and mutual support, all contributing to the evolution of their ideas. This exhibition is not just a display of artistic expression; it represents the initial stride towards future group shows that aim to celebrate and enrich the artistic landscape of Portsmouth.
